Quake Mosaic
THE ARTISTS: Since 2014, Kristina Young has worked to complete the project in collaboration with several local non-profit, private, and public partners. Over 1,000 community members have contributed to the project by volunteering, donating or helping to build sections of the mosaic using objects broken collected from Napa residents and businesses. The production process and finished piece offer therapeutic reflection opportunities while contributing to the positive impact of RAD in Downtown Napa.
THE ART: The Napa Quake Mosaic is a community-built, artist-designed public art installation honoring those affected by the 8/24/14 Napa earthquake as well as the 2017 and 2020 Wildfires our community experienced.
THE STORY: The majority of the mosaic material was broken at the same time and place, giving the project deeply specific and personal relevance to our community. Once coalesced, it will reveal a snapshot of the memories, stories, and lives of contemporary Napa residents and remain a touchstone into the future.
